Application of Vaisala VHF total lightning mapping network data at NWS Fort Worth/Dallas
Gregory R. Patrick, NOAA/NWS, Fort Worth, TX; and N. W. S. Demetriades
Data from Vaisala's VHF total lightning mapping network, centered in north Texas near Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, continue to be delivered in real time to the NWS Fort Worth/Dallas Weather Forecast office. Total lightning data can be displayed on all forecaster workstations to aid decision making for critical products and services. This paper will examine several recent cases where total lightning data provided unique insight into convective storm-scale trends. Special emphasis has been given to correlating density products derived from total lightning data with traditional radar data as they relate to inferred storm trends and physical processes.
