A Technique for Real-time Visualization of Meteorological Radar

Kenneth H. Bergeron, EW Radar, Saint Louis, MO

Visualization of real-time meteorological radar data is commonly used for diagnostic purposes while derived products are used for operational observation. In this paper, an enhanced real-time visualization technique is presented. This technique allows meteorological observation including maximum echo, accumulated rainfall, echo heights and other information previously only available with derived products. These observations are contiguously updated and displayed as the radar acquires data eliminating the delay caused by volumetric acquisition and processing.
