VIIRS Gridding and Granulation Algorithms for NPOESS

Alain Sei, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, Redondo Beach, CA

The VIIRS algorithms for the NPOESS program use many gridded products as intermediate products (IP) in the production of the VIIRS EDR (Environmental Data Records). This presentation focuses on gridding and granulation algorithms used for the production of these gridded/granulated products for the NPOESS program. The gridding and granulation algorithms have a long heritage including the MODIS gridding/granulation algorithms. A description of the gridding/granulation algorithms and testing results for the main component (the weight calculator) are presented along with a list of the gridded and granulated products for NPOESS.
