Site Specific Terminal Forecast Amendment Criteria (SSTAC)
Bradford L. Sipperley Sr., NOAA/NWS, Fairbanks, AK; and J. D. Fairbanks Weather Forecast Office
Site Specific Terminal Forecast Amendment Criteria or SSTAC employs three important customer focused concepts. Concepts include using each airfield's lowest published and alternate ceiling and visibility thresholds, grouping ceiling and visibility together to match Federal Aviation regulatory requirements, and immediate forecaster notification of non-occurring temporary flight restrictions. Each concept provides benefits not only to the customer, but also the forecast office. These concepts have been integrated into the National Weather Service's Aviation Forecast Preparation System (AvnFPS) in Fairbanks Alaska since May of 2006. Since this time customer feedback has been extremely positive. In addition, the forecast office has realized an overall reduction of 23 percent in Terminal Aerodrome Forecast (TAF) amendments.
