Investigation of using HDF5 Archival Information Packages(AIP) to store NASA ECS Data

MuQun Yang, The HDF Group, Champaign, IL; and R. E. Duerr and C. Lee

The long-term archival of Earth science data is challenging and expensive because data have been stored in different formats and metadata may not follow standards. In this presentation, we demonstrate an alternative solution, namely migration of data to a single standard-based archive format. Data from NASA's Earth Observing System(EOS) Data Centers formatted in Hierarchical Data Format(HDF) and NASA ECS file level metadata are migrated to HDF5 Archival Information Package(AIP).
