Changes in California Current upwelling water sources with different resolution wind forcing
Hajoon Song, SIO/Univ. Of California, La Jolla, CA
In California Current System(CCS), wind forcing causes upwelling in two different mechanisms, which are Ekman transport and Ekman pumping. In previous studies, well resolved wind forcing results in more estimated upwelling by Ekman pumping. However, the origin of upwelling water and its properties is not clear. In order to identify the upwelling water source, I will use adjoint version of Regional Ocean Modeling System(ROMS). With three different kinds of wind forcing, which are NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis, QuikSCAT and RSM, I will run adjoint ROMS(ADROMS) backward with passive tracers along the coast and offshore, and compare how wind forcing changes upwelling water sources.
