16th Conference on Air-Sea Interaction

6B.1

Climate variability of air-sea heat, evaporation, and vector wind developed by OAFlux

Lisan Yu, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, MA

Multi-decade analysis of global vector wind has been recently developed by the OAFlux (Objectively Analyzed Air-sea Fluxes) project at WHOI. Together with the global time series of air-sea heat fluxes and evaporation that have been released, the OAFlux project provides consistent datasets of air-sea exchanges of heat, water vapor, and momentum that can be used to address atmosphere-ocean interactions on time scales from synoptic, seasonal, interannual, to decadal and longer-term. In this study, these surface flux datasets are introduced and their applications to global climate studies are presented.
