OMPS sensor performance and algorithm description

Scott Farrow, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, Redondo Beach, CA; and D. Gu, T. Christensen, D. Fields, and Q. Remund

The Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) is the next-generation U.S. ozone monitoring system, designed for the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS). The first flight of an OMPS is scheduled for mid-2010 on the NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP) satellite. The OMPS sensor data will be used to generate the ozone sensor data and Environmental Data Record (EDR) products.

The OMPS sensor performance and algorithms will be presented. The sensor has recently completed thermal vacuum, electro-magnetic interference, and vibration testing. By the time of the presentation, the sensor sell-off is expected to have been completed as well. An overview of the sensor suite, the FM1 measurement performance, and details of the retrieval algorithms will be provided in this presentation.
