Major Winter Weather Events in the US, 2007–2008: Overview and Impacts

Major winter storms during 2007-8 included events in California and the northern Pacific coast, New England, the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys, Great Lakes, all of the Rocky Mountain region and intermountain west, and the central and northern plains. This presentation will overview some of the meteorological aspects of these storms that made them unique. Some of the major impacts will be summarized and placed in a historical perspective, and unique forecasting aspects will be discussed, as well as new technology such as automatic road condition monitoring. The presentation will include improvements needed in the communication of public impacts of these storms in advance.
