VIIRS Land Surface Reflectance Algorithm for NPOESS

Most of the VIIRS Land products are based on atmospherically corrected surface reflectances. These products include the vegetation index EDR, the surface albedo EDR and the surface type EDR as well as many gridded intermediate products (IP). The VIIRS surface reflectance algorithm used for the NPOESS program has a long heritage including the MODIS surface reflectance (MOD09) algorithm. In this presentation we compare the VIIRS and MODIS algorithms and their outputs as well as the vegetation index products derived from surface reflectance. We show good agreement between the VIIRS and MODIS algorithms.
