Lightning measurements acquired by the Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) onboard of the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite provides the distribution and variability of total lightning (i.e., cloud-to-ground and intracloud) along the tropical region of the globe (between 35 degrees in latitude). Ten years of LIS data (1998-2008) are processed and analyzed to construct a 0.25 and 0.10 degree spatial resolution reanalysis. This higher resolution reanalysis will provide a better understanding and identification of the mean lightning annual maxima regions over the tropics.
