Ozone Profiles at Dakar Senegal during the summer of 2008
Room 127A (Phoenix Convention Center)
Tropospheric ozone means and variability over Northern Africa have been estimated primarily from satellite estimates with no established long-term measurement sites. During the summer (June, July, August) of 2008, ozonesondes were launched from the Dakar, Senegal (14.75, 17.49W) at 1200 UTC. Ozonesondes launched during SAL outbreaks as identified from dew-point and temperature measurements from rawin-sondes and from aerosol optical thickness measurements. A comparison of ozonesonde profiles between SAL and non-SAL cases within the 925-550 hPa layer where the SAL is most pervasive is presented. Large-scale synoptic meteorological conditions associated with the ozone measurements are also presented.
