Customer satisfaction at NOAA's NESDIS data centers

Tamara G. Houston, NOAA/NESDIS/NCDC, Asheville, NC

In 2003 and again in 2008, NOAA's National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) Data Centers distributed a customer satisfaction survey to their users. Both surveys asked users to rate their satisfaction on issues such as quality of products and services received, accessibility of data, and timeliness of response. The surveys also asked users to identify the type of data received, the primary use of the product, as well as the benefit of the data to the user or user's company. Results from both surveys were then compared to determine if customer satisfaction changed over time. Overall, in both surveys, a majority of users were satisfied or extremely satisfied with the products and services they received while other users mentioned areas for improvement.
