NAWIPS integration of Product Generation within AWIPS II

David Plummer, NOAA/NWS/NCEP, Camp Springs, MD; and S. Jacobs, S. Gilbert, and B. A. Gordon

This paper describes the current progress of the migration of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) AWIPS (NAWIPS) Product Generation (PGEN) functionality. The objective of this migration is to fully represent the current NAWIPS PGEN functionality within the AWIPS2 architecture. The NCEP forecasters use the NAWIPS PGEN software for the operational creation of numerous official NWS/NCEP graphical and text products. PGEN consists of a suite of sophisticated tools for the creation, editing and rendering of meteorological objects. The user experience, such as which editing tools are presented to the user, is driven by the product being constructed. The creation of text products is performed by various formatting factories by extracting meta-information from the objects, or combinations of objects.
