The Lecture – what is it and why do we do it?

Lecturing remains the most common method of teaching. Can lectures support students acquire new information? Can lectures promote thought? And can they change student attitude or behavioral skills?
We can all agree that good lectures are well organized and presented clearly and enthusiastically. In addition, it is important to “break-up” the lecture by introducing activities that engage the students. Lecturing becomes a problem when it is the only teaching method used and encourages students to be passive participants.
Lectures are generally not good for teaching students to think. This talk will discuss combining lectures with technologies to improve learning objectives in a large lecture classes. Bring your wireless device.
