Thomas H. Vonder Haar, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO
Experience with research and operational satellite missions and programs to observe Earth's Weather and Climate since the 1960's have provided abundant "lessons learned" for the Second Mission to Planet Earth. The paper will discuss some of them in regard to a) long-term observing systems ; b) converged programs ; and c)thrusts of scientific inquiry with early results and continuing opportunities.
