Mobile technologies continue to change the landscape of weather information consumption for businesses. A plethora of stand-alone applications are widely available for many different devices and operating systems to obtain real-time weather information domestically. Value-added features in addition to real-time weather information are a necessity for businesses and organizations to mitigate the associated risks of weather, improve operating efficiencies, and increase overall safety. A new generation of global weather applications will be discussed, detailing the integration of advanced meteorological datasets, user-defined alerting criteria, and location-based alerting, to aid non-meteorological users in making effective operational decisions.
