OGC Enabling Environmental Data Sources Via Uframe™ Framework
Room 356 (New Orleans Convention Center )
Robert W. Bowne, Raytheon, Omaha, NE; and B. D. Clements and M. G. Payne

uFrame™ is the core Service Oriented Architecture software framework that is the foundation of the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System II (AWIPS II). We will explore why OGC is a powerful way to web-enable environmental data and how to web-enable environmental data via this flexible framework. We describe how uFrame's plugin design pattern was extended so a plugin can be OGC enabled with minimal effort. We will discuss the development of Open Geospatial Consortium compliant Web Map Service (WMS), Web Feature Service (WFS) and Web Coverage Services (WCS) within this framework. We will highlight the use of these services with meteorological data & products, the utility of OGC standards in a SOA, and access of these services via handheld edge clients for analysis and situational awareness. Case studies include displaying products via WMS, creating impacts from GRIB forecasts, building 3-D KML impacts from WMS, transmitting raw data contained in netCDF-CF via WCS, displaying METAR symbology and other point data using WMS and Style Layer Descriptors SLD in addition to using WFS to transmit data in GML.
