Public Survey Results for a Prototype NWS Web-Based Watch/Warning/Advisory Map
Room 243 (New Orleans Convention Center )
Kevin Scharfenberg, NOAA/NWS, Silver Spring, MD; and B. P. Walawender and B. Akamine

The current watch/warning/advisory (w/w/a) map displayed on the home page of the NWS and its local offices was first deployed about a decade ago. The map is a static image of the w/w/a in effect, with each product type shown in a different color. To take advantage of the capabilities of modern web browser, a prototype interactive map was developed and deployed for public comment. Most notably, the map uses only six unique colors to show the type of product in effect. The NWS received thousands of feedback comments during the experimental period. The feedback gathered will be described, along with how it will be used to inform future decisions for displaying this critical information to the public.
