The Protocol for the Analysis of Land Surface models (PALS) website is aimed at the standardisation of land surface model (LSM) benchmarking internationally. It contains appropriately formatted data sets to force offline LSM experiments and automatically performs a broad range of analyses once LSM outputs are uploaded. Several methods of producing a-priori benchmark levels of performance can be viewed in a significant number of the analysis types shown in PALS. This talk will describe the initial phase of PALS, features in development and future plans.
