NOAA and NWS have recently published strategic plans. The NWS roadmap details specific activities and deliverables the agency will utilize to realize the NOAA Next-Generation Strategic Plan (NGSP) goal of a weather-ready Nation, and the six goals of the NWS strategic plan:

1. Improve weather decision services for events that threaten lives and livelihoods 2. Deliver a broad suite of improved water forecasting services to support management of the Nation's water supply 3. Enhance climate services to help communities, businesses, and governments understand and adapt to climate-related risks 4. Improve sector-relevant information in support of economic productivity 5. Enable integrated environmental forecast services supporting healthy communities and ecosystems 6. Sustain a highly skilled, professional workforce equipped with the training, tools, and infrastructure to meet our mission

The goal of a weather-ready Nation requires better integration of environmental services across all of NOAA. Significant sociological drivers such as coastal population growth and climate change are increasing community vulnerability, and partners want to know what the NWS knows, including probabilities, accuracy, timeliness, and accessibility to data, so they can make the best risk-based decisions possible. This requires NWS to place an emphasis on services and technologies geared towards relating NOAA science to societal outcomes, and a business plan geared towards ensuring the sustainability of the NWS's infrastructure.

The roadmap team has produced four plans that explore the spectrum of all changes NWS needs to make to meet these growing needs. The roadmap features four plans: services, science and technology, workforce evolution, and business. The purpose of this presentation is to summarize these plans, and to share the vision of how NWS will implement its strategic plan and the NOAA NGSP goal of a weather-ready Nation.
