Coastal Oceanic Variability During Typhoon Fanapi (2010) Passage
Room 338 (New Orleans Convention Center )
This study is to examine the coastal zone ocean response due to the air-sea interaction during Typhoon Fanapi (2010) passage, with the emphasis on characteristics of the mesoscale oceanic variability before landfall. These coastal zone responses will be compared with those from open ocean. Real-time forecasts using the fully Coupled Ocean/Atmosphere Mesoscale Prediction System – Tropical Cyclone (COAMPS®-TC) were conducted at the Naval Research Laboratory over the Western Pacific in support of the Office of Naval Research (ONR)'s field experiment Impact of Typhoon on the Ocean in the Pacific (ITOP) conducted in the summer of 2010. The observational data from ITOP field experiment will be used to verify the numerical model. Detailed results will be presented at the conference.
