Evaluating CLIMAS: A Brief Survey of Recent Efforts to Evaluate the Impact of the Climate Assessment for the Southwest
Room 243 (New Orleans Convention Center )
Daniel Ferguson, Univ. of Arizona, Tucson, AZ; and G. Owen and Z. Guido

Over the last several years, researchers associated with the Climate Assessment for the Southwest (CLIMAS) program have begun to evaluate the impact of both individual projects that are part of CLIMAS as well as the program as a whole. These efforts have ranged from work to understand who our primary audience is and how they are interacting with the program, to focused assessments of specific products and services. This presentation will provide a brief survey of recent CLIMAS evaluation projects, with a focus on demonstrating the different methods and approaches we have taken in understanding what role the CLIMAS program is playing in the network of climate researchers and climate service providers in the US Southwest. Aside from briefly presenting results from three separate evaluation efforts, this talk will also draw on these experiences to highlight some lessons learned about evaluating the sort of policy-relevant research and climate services that are at the heart of the RISA program.
