Canadian Test Bed for the Assessment of Instruments Measuring Solid Precipitation
Room 239 (New Orleans Convention Center )
Given the widely documented limitations of accurately measuring solid preciptiation and the increasing complexity of data needs, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has initiated the organization of a field intercomparison of automatic precipitation gauges and their configurations, in various climate conditions, focusing on the measurement of precipitation in cold conditions. Canada is an active participant in this initiative and will host an important component of the WMO project on one of its sites. This paper will outline the site configuration and how it relates to the project objectives, as well as some of the preliminary results.
