Spectral Characteristics of near-Surface Turbulent Flow Over West Texas Terrain
Room 239 (New Orleans Convention Center )
In support of research into turbulent flow behavior in the vicinity of wind farms, a 30 meter tower was instrumented at 5 levels above West Texas terrain near Forsan, TX. Instrumentation included a sonic anemometer at each level that produced 32 Hz measurements of the 3 components of the wind and temperature. These data sets allowed for fundamental analyses of the spectral characteristics of the turbulent flow at different levels in various conditions. Results and comparisons to classical behavior are presented.
