2011 Weather Impacts on the Global Food Supply
La Nouvelle C (New Orleans Convention Center )
Michael Ferrari, CSC, Greenbelt, MD

During this talk, I will review some of the past year's major weather events which affected agricultural production around the world, and discuss some of the impacts to particular crops and food prices. Focus will revolve around: (a) US grains/oilseeds, (b) Global Sugarcane (focus on Brazil, Australia & Thailand) and (c) Africa/South America coffee & cocoa. As we saw last year, weather contributed to a significant amount of volatility for commercial food and futures prices, and as global stockpiles are still thin and demand is strong, I will discuss what is expected for food supply into early 2012.
