This presentation will provide an overview of the 2011 US wildfire year. Highlights will include Texas, which had its most devastating fire year on record given damage (nearly 6000 homes and structures destroyed) and area burned (nearly 4 million acres); the Southwest US, of which New Mexico had its largest wildfire on record that threatened Los Alamos and the Los Alamos National Lab; Hawaii, of which a volcanic eruption burned 2000 acres threatening an old growth forest; Georgia's extensive fire season; and Florida's wildfire activity. This year smoke as a health hazard became more prominent for some of the fires.
