This paper discusses windfarm clutter in radar and advantages of dual polarization radar in mitigation of the returns from turbine blades. The windfarm clutter is discussed in two scenarios: for weather observations and for aircraft observations. The mitigation strategy is not disclosed as Lockheed Martin proprietary, however the result of mitigation are presented. Mitigation significantly improves the continuity of radar images in the clutter regions for weather observations and levels the background noise and environmental disturbances for aircraft detection and tracking.
