To extract meteorological insight from remotely sensed parameters requires a data analysis framework that is modular, extensible and open. The ecosystem of applications for working with scanning weather radar is somewhat disjointed relying on specialized file formats and requiring a high degree of knowledge just to install the software. This presentation will discuss a generalized framework for interacting with weather radar data in a python environment. Particular reference will be made to the iPython notebook and the potential for building tutorials on working with radar data accessible to a wide range of users.
