The Center for Weather Forecast and Climate Studies from the National Institute for Space Research (CPTEC/INPE; that is, a Brazilian National Weather Center) are evaluating observation impacts in the Local Ensemble Transform Kalman Filter (LETKF) that is on the way to complete development and testing at the center. Since 2011 this capability was added to CPTEC LETKF following the ensemble-based approach of Liu and Kalnay (2008; QJRMS, 134, 1327-1355). There is current work taking place to allow the system to be ready to assimilate radiances. Since not, this presentation will evaluate the short-range forecast impact of the set of in situ and remote sensing observations currently available at CPTEC LETKF in the presence of temperature retrievals.
