Fetch and Footprint Requirements for Flux Observations over Tall Vegetation

Xuhui Lee, Yale University, New Haven, CT

In this paper, an advection-diffusion model is developed for the turbulent transport processes in and above a tall vegetation. Numerical simulations are performed over a wide range of stability conditions and for various scenarios of the vertical distribution of the canopy source strength. Fetch and footprint calculations are compared with those predicted from principles of diffusion for the smooth-wall surface layer.
