Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, is located in the Central District, on the Choluteca River in the south-central section of the country. Situated at an altitude of about 975 m (about 3,200 ft), it is the largest city of Honduras. The city was established in the late 16th century.

A statistical analysis of temperature, precipitation and relative humidity in Tegucigalpa was made as part of the assessment of the climate change impact in Honduras. The data covers a period of 53 years, from 1944 to 2000. Other elements of the urban environment in Tegucigalpa are discussed. Scientists, policymakers, and the general public, can use these results to increase the awareness of the social consequences of global warming.
