The Basel Urban Boundary Layer Experiment (BUBBLE) brings together activities in modeling, remote sensing and turbulence measurements, in order to increase the understanding of exchange processes in urban areas. Details of the project including scientific goals, instrumentation and participants can be found in Rotach (2002, same conference). As part of the project, a yearlong field experiment is carried out in the city of Basel (Switzerland) with continuously operated surface instrumentation. The measurements started recently and will last to Sep 2002. This presentation focuses on turbulence profiles in and above two street canyons. Each Site is equipped with six sonics, starting at street level reaching up to two times the building height. As first results mean vertical profiles of momentum and sensible heat fluxes are reported and discussed.
