Near-Real-Time AMSR-E products at NOAA

The NOAA/NESDIS Near-Real-Time (NRT) AMSR-E Processing System was implemented under Computer Sciences Corporation’s (CSC) Central Satellite Data Processing contract to produce a full suite of products generated from the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer - Earth Observing System (AMSR-E) data. The system shares the same NOAA NRT Processing Facilities at GSFC, Greenbelt, MD as MODIS and AIRS processing systems.

The AMSR-E instrument on the NASA EOS Aqua satellite provides global passive microwave measurements of terrestrial, oceanic, and atmospheric parameters for research of water and energy cycles. The current suite of geophysical (Level 2 and 3) products under development contains soil moisture, vegetation water content, sea and land surface temperature, surface type, near-surface wind speed, water vapor and cloud liquid water contents.

AMSR-E brightness temperatures used for product processing are generated using the calibration procedure provided by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

The NRT AMSR-E Processing System performs a complete operational cycle from processing raw observation data to geophysical products to distribution and short-term storage.

The poster will present an overview of NOAA’s AMSR-E NRT processing system and some geophysical products generated by it.
