Hispanics in geo-sciences: An effort to motivate youngsters and parents
John Toohey-Morales, NBC Telemundo and Climadata, Miami, FL
Utilizing the power of television in a city with a very large Latino population, the author attempts to stimulate children to pursue their interest in math and science, and encourage their parents to support them. The long term goal of this grass roots effort is to augment the number of Hispanic students pursuing careers in the geosciences, therefore alleviating the shortage of minorities in the field.
