The Integration of Maury Project Modules with a Middle School Science Kit - Catastrophic Events

Barbara K. Walton-Faria, Thompson Middle School, Newport, RI

In order to meet the demands of NCLB, many school districts are investing in kit-based science. While science kits offer a firm foundation on which to build a program, they often fail to meet or address the national science education standards. Educators must find ways to boost up the science presented in the kits. By integrating the Maury Project modules, educators are able to introduce solid physical oceanographic topics into the kits. The modules are based on good science, are easily adaptable to any age group, and provide the students with a much needed exposure to oceanography. wrf recording  Recorded presentation
