A novel partnership for addressing the impacts of climate change in western North Carolina

The National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center (NEMAC) is a partnership between private enterprise and the University of North Carolina system, working closely together with government agencies to use the vast archive of meteorological data available through the National Climatic Data Center, located in Asheville. NEMAC's focus is to develop efficient and dynamic computational models for both public and private clients.
Once NEMAC is established, it will expand its range of projects to include:
*Prediction of additional energy needs caused by climatic changes
*Prediction of water levels in specific waterways to anticipate flash floods
*Analysis of distribution and dispersal of airborne or waterborne pollutants in specific regions
*Development of risk-assessment models for health and emergency-management authorities to use in times of advserse weather conditions
*Development of user-interface tools that allow enhanced visualization of environmental data
