Proposed Online Weather Studies at the College of Menominee Nation and its Potential for Native American Students

William M. Van Lopik, College of Menominee Nation, Keshena, WI

The College of Menominee Nation is located on the Menominee Indian Reservation in rural northeast Wisconsin. The majority of the 500+ students are Native Americans. The AMS Online Weather Studies course is currently in the process of being developed for the college. The course will offer students an alternative science course to fulfill their degree requirements. The appeal of the course to students is that it will be the first internet-based course offered by our college. The course is also attractive to a large percent of the student population who spend a great deal of their work and recreational activities outside and thus are dependent on daily weather conditions. This poster will highlight the progress of the Online Weather Studies course at the college and demonstrate how it is a good match for our local setting.
