The NOAA Coastal Storms Initiative (CSI): offshore forecasting improvements

Patrick T. Welsh, NOAA/NWSFO, Jacksonville, FL

A NOAA funded project in North Florida has substantially improved the offshore forecasts at the WFO in Jacksonville Florida. The presentation will discuss the new offshore buoy and wave modeling efforts and results. These projects have been shown to yield improvements in offshore forecasting. The newly developed Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model is capable of working synergistically with these other CSI improvements to delivering improved forecast products to the marine community.
