An Operational Coastal Mesoscale Forecast System

James K. Titlow III, WeatherFlow Inc., Poquoson, VA

WeatherFlow Inc. operates its own version of the RAMS (Regional Atmospheric Modeling System) over several domains that cover much of the coastal United States. At the same time, WeatherFlow operates its own coastal mesonet that provides a unique data stream enhancing WeatherFlow's ability to provide forecasts to various clients who work and play in the coastal zone. The mesonet is of use in various aspects of model development including assimilation, statistical and knowledge-based forecast post-processing, and forecast verification.
