Developing a climate record for a glacial lake valley in Svalbard

Daniel Philip Lane, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY

Lake Linné, a glacial lake located on the arctic archipelago of Svalbard (78N), provides researchers with a high-resolution sediment record of climate change during the late Holocene. To better interpret and calibrate this record, limited local meteorological data from the Valley have been coupled with longer regional weather records to develop an extended meteorological record for the Linné Valley. The derived record is of particular interest since it describes the conditions producing the uppermost sedimentation pattern as well as a century of retreat for the glacier that feeds the Lake system.
