Trends and variations of Hurricane related precipitation

Damage due to hurricane-related precipitation is arguable at least as costly as wind damage. We have now developed historical data to help delineate hurricane related precipitation. The amount of precipitation related to tropical storms and hurricanes varies greatly by decade, and makes up a substantial part of the annual precipitation in the southeast coastal zones. There are many challenges related to identifying trends in the record, e.g., ENSO and non-ENSO years, normalizing by intensity, etc. We review several of these issues and also assess the stationarit y of the record. .
