AMS Pre-College Student Chapters: Touching the Future
Kathleen A. Murphy, Ladue School District, St. Louis, MO
Many scientists were inspired to study the sciences when they were very young. Childhood experiences led to career paths which focus on those childhood curiosities. Recognizing this fact, the American Meteorological Society has opened its membership to precollege chapters which can foster that interest in the young students. The requirements are few, and the opportunities are many. Each chapter can set up their own meeting schedule, focusing on the interests of the members. This poster will present the experiences of one of the first pre-college chapters, in an effort to encourage more schools to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to touch the future of the oceanic and atmospheric sciences.
