Aura Data Product Support and Services at the NASA GES DAAC
This presentation discusses the data product support and services that the NASA Goddard Earth Sciences DAAC will provide for the Aura mission. Aura was launched July 15, 2004 to study the Earth's atmosphere by measuring various chemical species (O3, CFCs, CH4, BrO, ClO, CO, HCHO, NOx, SO2, etc.), aerosols, cloud properties, water vapor, temperature, and surface UV radiation. Four state-of-the-art instruments on board the Aura spacecraft are: the High Resolution Dynamics Limb Sounder (HIRDLS), the Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS), the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI), and the Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES). The HIRDLS, MLS and OMI data will be archived at the NASA Goddard Earth Sciences (GES) DAAC, while data from TES will be archived at the NASA Langley Research Center DAAC.
This presentation discusses the common Aura file layout structure adopted for, and the data tools which support the EOS Aura standard data products. All Aura instrument teams agreed on using the HDF-EOS5 format as a common layout for all of their level 2 data products. This simplifies the development of data access, visualization and analysis tools, and hence inter-comparison among the instrument data will be made easier. The GES DAAC will also provide users with data subsetting cababilities when ordering these data. For more information see http://daac.gsfc.nasa.gov/.
