Aerosols collected during the 19th Chinese Antarctic Research Expedition (CHINARE 19) and the Second Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition (CHINARE II)
A joint project between Chinese and American scientists led to the collection of size- and time-resolved aerosols during the 19th Chinese Antarctic Research Expedition (CHINARE 19) and the Second Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition (CHINARE II). The aerosol measurements were collected using 3-stage DRUM aerosol impactors mounted on top of the bridge of the Xuelong. The impactors had size cuts corresponding to 0.09-0.34 microns, 0.34-1.15 microns and 1.15-2.5 microns in aerodynamic diameter. The samplers collected aerosols continuously for almost the entire durations of the cruises. The resulting samples are high quality and will provide useful information on the aerosol concentrations and compositions over the oceans along the ship’s cruise tracks. The elemental composition results for these aerosol measurements will be presented in this talk.
