On the influence of the state of the Antarctic 0scillation (AAO) on surface chemistry at the South Pole
William D. Neff, NOAA, Boulder, Colorado
Recent experiments (1998, 2000, and 2003) have revealed significant interannual variability in surface nitrogen oxide concentrations at the South Pole that have occurred during extremes in the Antarctic oscillation index (AAOI). The behavior of the atmosphere boundary layer will be explored in the context of the AAOI and the effect of large scale dynamics.
