Applying Portal Techniques to Ensemble Modeling of Convection

Brian F. Jewett, Univ. of Illinois, Urbana, IL; and R. Wilhelmson, J. Alameda, S. Hampton, and A. Rossi

In problems such as idealized thunderstorm interaction and real-data forecast ensembles composed of multiple models, physics and/or data, large numbers of distinct numerical simulations are required. We are examining the evolution of severe thunderstorms and hurricanes with the WRF model, applying LEAD portal capabilities to manage these numerical studies. Submission, monitoring and display of WRF simulations will be demonstrated using OGRE and the ensemble broker. .
