International Polar Years—online and full text

Doria B. Grimes, NOAA Central Library, Silver Spring, MD; and A. Fiolek

To assist planners and participants of the International Polar Year in 2007, NOAA Central Library staff compiled an online bibliography with links to polar exploration and research resources from its historical collections. Beginning with the arctic expeditions prior to the First International Polar Year in 1882-1883, the Second in 1932-1933, and through to the forthcoming Fourth, this comprehensive document contains links to full texts, digital videos, images, online cruise data and Web resources. Publications from notable explorers include John Ross, George Back, Edward Belcher, Elisha Kane, Thomas Rupert Jones, and many others. Narratives and reports include the Greely Arctic Expedition 1881-1884, cruise of the revenue marine streamer Corwin 1884-1885, and the Norwegian "Fram" Expedition in 1898-1902. wrf recording  Recorded presentation
