The James Holton Symposium

2.1

Transport Processes and Ozone: Dynamics, Chemistry, and Jim Holton

Susan Solomon, NOAA/AL, Boulder, CO

The interaction of chemistry and transport in determining the distribution of stratospheric ozone has been a topic of scientific interest since measurements of ozone began in the 19th century. In this talk, Jim Holton's pioneering contributions to the understanding of the role of dynamics in stratospheric ozone changes will first be reviewed. New studies examining the role of deep convection in tropical transport of ozone will also be presented.
