The James Holton Symposium

1.4

Convectively coupled equatorial waves

Brian Hoskins, Univ. of Reading, Reading, Berks., United Kingdom; and G. Yang and J. Slingo

An attempt is made to bridge the gap between the basic theory of equatorial waves and the wave-like phenomena that are observed to occur in the tropics and that have deep convection associated with them. The 3-D structure of these waves, the relationship of their convection with the dynamical fields, and their behaviour in time will be described. Some comments on the ability of some state-of-the-art models to represent the waves will be given.wrf recording  Recorded presentation
